The consultation fee is $250 per session. Each session is 50 minutes in duration. Fees are payable at your consultation either by cash, EFTPOS, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).
There is a cancellation fee of half the session fee when you cancel a session with less than 48 hours’ notice, except in the case of significant illness or misadventure. If you give less than 24 hours’ notice (except in the case of unforeseen emergencies), or fail to arrive for the appointment, the full session fee is charged. These cancellation fees are not claimable from Medicare or private health insurance.
Psychology services are claimable under Medicare for eligible individuals. To be able to claim any Medicare rebate, you require a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your doctor prior to your first psychology session.
You can claim a rebate for up to 10 individual sessions with a psychologist per calendar year. The gap you pay contributes to the Medicare Safety Net, so once you reach the safety net in a calendar year, you will receive an additional rebate of 80% of the gap per session.
After you pay for your session you will be issued with a receipt electronically via email. You can then submit this to Medicare to claim your rebate. Please note it is not possible to just pay the gap; you need to pay the whole session fee and then claim your rebate, which Medicare pays into your bank account.
If you are not eligible for the Medicare rebate (for example, you may not have a psychological condition but just want some relationship counselling), your private health fund may offer some rebate. Most private health funds now offer rebates for psychology services if you have extras cover. Please contact your health fund to enquire how many sessions are covered per year, and if there is a dollar limit per session and/or overall. We cannot submit these claims on your behalf.
